DESCRIPTION
A Lamp in the Dark is an exciting new documentary that unfolds the fascinating “untold” history of the Bible, revealing critical information often overlooked in modern histories. Enter into a world of saints and martyrs battling against spies, assassins and wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Throughout the Middle Ages, the Papal Inquisition forbade biblical translation, threatening imprisonment and death to those who disobeyed. Learn the stories of valiant warriors of the faith, such as John Wycliffe, William Tyndale, Martin Luther, the ancient Waldenses, Albigenses and others who hazarded their lives for the sake of sharing the Gospel light with a world drowning in darkness.
Once the common people were able to read the Bible, the world was turned upside down through the Protestant Reformation. The Reformers subdued whole kingdoms by preaching the grace of God, and exposing the unbiblical doctrines of Rome. In response, the Vatican would launch a Counter Reformation to destroy the work of the Reformers, including the bibles they produced.
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
A Lamp in the Dark was filmed on locations in England and Belgium, and features never before seen interviews with leading Bible scholars, including David Brown, Roger Oakland, Alan O’Reilly, D.A. Waite and others. Also included are chief curators from the British Library in London, Erasmus House in Belgium, and the William Tyndale Museum in Vilvoorde, where Tyndale himself was burnt at the stake.
This ground-breaking documentary is also filled with rich visual graphics and dramatic re-enactments of key historic events.
Included in this 3 hour DVD:
1) The history of the early Church, with the warnings from Jesus and the Apostles about “grievous wolves” and apostasy.
2) How the Inquisition began for the purpose of silencing Christians and outlawing the Bible.
3) The Bible translations of John Wycliffe and William Tyndale, the Great Bible, the Geneva Bible, and finally the King James Version.
4) The Protestant Reformation and the reasons behind it.
5) Key doctrines confronted by the Reformers (i.e. Indulgences, Inspiration of Scripture, Salvation, Transubstantiation, Veneration of Mary, and Papal claims of authority).
6) The Counter Reformation which began with the founding of the Jesuit Order in 1540.
7) The Vatican’s involvement with the Critical Text and their influence over world-wide biblical translation in the 20th century.

Sarah, just yesterday I was in an in-depth conversation with a highly educated man who was throwing serious disclaimers (based on substantial historical and scientific findings etc) about the authenticity of the Bible with the ultimate aim of proving Jesus Christ was just another prophet and not God incarnate, savior of mankind. The Holy Spirit really touched my heart that I needed to be able to address educated people like this man who know a great deal of seriously detailed historical facts. I fell back to FAITH IS ABOUT BELIEVING WHAT IS UNSEEN... His face was tortured, I could tell he was trying desperately to find Christ by Logic, Science, Proof, History etc.. And he was begging to find some more evidence. I know this is a stumbling block to the wise.. I also believe Paul used his great knowledge of the scripture to help spread the gospel and I was embarrassed I know so little. And here this evening I find this. Thank you dear sister for equipping the saints in these last days.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hey thanks for sharing that link. It was a great documentary.
ReplyDeleteAbout the only thing I have possible issues with is the issue of Constantine. I don't know if we can know whether or not he was a true convert, but I disagree with the idea that Constantine was able to influence and manipulation the Church at the time into corruption. The Bishops who showed up at the Council of Nicea that people love to attack and accuse, (which I now believe it is the devil influencing these accusations against the pre-nicene church and the council which was held; pop culture even makes conspiracy theories about the Nicean Council), these Bishops were strong men of FAITH, who were from the age of the martyrs, who facing death and torture did not bend in their faith.
Read this account of the Council to see what I mean. It brought tears to my eyes:
http://www.tertullian.org/fathers/marutha_nicaea_02_text.htm
I do agree that the established physical Church eventually did become corrupt, as made obvious in that video, and I do think it openly started showing signs late in that same century. Looking into the whole Pope thing, it seems the idea of the primacy of the bishop of Rome popped up around 390 or so.
And although this offends people, and I might get labeled a cultist or whatever, I strongly agree with the conclusions the documentary was making about the KJV.
The KJV is the ONLY Bible I trust and read from. I might look at others for comparison, but I am at peace with the KJV.
ALL the modern english translations (NKJV, RV, NIV, etc.) are based off Wescott and Hort's translations, which as the video showed were based off corrupt codices: the Vaticainus, which was the main one they used, the Alexandrinus, and the Sinaiticus.
I believe all the new versions are perversions. There are verses missing, with footnotes shedding doubt on the reliability of the Word, and entire meanings of some passages is different. Compare the KJV with any new version after it on the topic of the "Morning Star". The newer versions nearly imply Jesus is Satan! Take a look at the newer renderings of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednigo in the furnace. The newer versions give a different impression of key points in that story too. Etc.
What is even worse is that there are a lot of Bibles labeled "KJV" that aren't actually KJV at all.
But don't take my word for all this. Prayerfully research the topic on your own.

Randy- There is another great video called "The case for Christ" by Lee Stroble- here is the link-

What I always like to say to unbelievers is that
the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is the same eye witness evidence that can used in a court of law to prove or disprove anything. The more than 500 eye witness accounts prove that Jesus was alive after his crucifixion. This same type of eye witness testimony is what the entire history of the world is made up of before cameras and film recorded it. And even with that it is the eye witnesses that fill in the blanks and give the details!
AMEN!!
Hi ThatGuy-- I know very little about Constantine. They say in this film that he was responsible for more deaths of Christians after his conversion than before. That is interesting and just shows me that just like today people can get way off the mark in their beliefs and things can go very wrong if Satan gets his hooks in. Just look at examples of that in people like Jim Jones, David Karesh, etc. And then there are all the apostate ones like Benny Hin, Kenneth Copeland, Eddie Long etc.
ReplyDeleteAs for the KJV Bible I agree 100% with what you said. The Lord told me personally that he "wants to speak to me in the King James." I have had a KJV Bible since I was a young teenager. Although there were many years I never even cracked it! You can read about that in my testimony.
I found the subject of the Jesuits in the film very enlightening because I knew nothing about them. Do you believe that Mystery Babylon is the Roman Catholic Church? It sure does seem to fit! I know many believe it is America, I am not so sure now and have asked the Lord to show me the truth on this after watching the film.
If you want to read an interesting post about the subject of Lucifer go here--
http://believersjourney.blogspot.com/2011/10/deconstructing-lucifer.html
This is pretty controversial but I don't shy from that on this blog, but I am very intent to never mislead anyone or to force my beliefs on anyone. I always say that I am not a teacher but a sharer and to test everything and do not take my word for anything.
In Christ, Sarah
Thank you Sarah, I will check it out. this video is amazing. I've thought for years especially after reading the great controversy (although it is tainted in its own right as Ellen G. White's 7th day Adventist cult, but nevertheless really brings out great research into the complete ANTICHRIST SPIRIT OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH,) that the Catholic Church is the Revelation 17 Mother of All Harlots. What Satan couldn't accomplish through Nero and the persecution of the saints, he did by using the church itself and that church began as Constantine the Vicar of christ (false christ)which became the pope.
ReplyDeletegreat stuff on the 500 eye witness accounts. Sarah.. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDear Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThis would probably go well with Mark Fairly's Know Your Enemy /Fuel Project!
Excellent post!
Deirdre
I was raised a Catholic. There are Christians in the Catholic Church, though they are a small minority. I don't care for the rituals and liturgies and hierarchy in the Catholic Church or in Protestant churches. "Your traditions make void the Word of God [Jesus]."
ReplyDeleteThe spirit of Antichrist is everywhere--it is not located in one, specific church structure. Babylon is a spiritual kingdom--the kingdom of Satan. Zion--New Jerusalem--is a spiritual kingdom--the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are ruled by our Heavenly Father are part of this kingdom. "Those who are led by the Spirit, shall be sons." "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done . . .": this implies lordship, obedience, death to self will. "Not all that say Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven."
Here is a great essay on Satan's kingdom here on earth; it is primarily a spiritual kingdom:
"Babylon the Great"
http://www.hallvworthington.com/Pennington/PenningtonBabylon.html
We shouldn't be too concerned about physical, man-made church structures. "We worship Him in Spirit and in truth." "The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." Church structure can be useful in salvation issues, teaching, pastoring and evangelizing--but eventually we have to stand on our own two feet and obey the Lord in whatever He tells us to do. "Obedience is better than sacrifice."
Tim what I find so very interesting is that the Reformers recognized the Popery and their abominations in the scriptures (Rev 17) once they had access to actually read the word in the Greek. This partly drove the reformation and the desire to put the most accurate translation of the word of God in the hands of every person. Without the word, we are lost!! They saw this fact once they had access to read what the text really said. And I find it so sad that many generations were lost because they were denied access to the scriptures by the Roman Popery. Going so far as to say that no one could even have their sins forgiven by anyone except the Pope. What a travesty!
ReplyDeleteAnd what is even more sad is that today we have unlimited access to the scriptures and still the "church" is just as lost as ever, except for a very small remnant.
Great point Tim. The institution of the Catholic Church is only one of the many elements and facets of satan's onslaught against the bride of Christ. In the end, I agree, the actual Babylon is a "spiritual kingdom". Agree w/ you Sarah, by the scriptures the reformation took place. That's why satan came so strong against the publishing of the true scriptures into the common person's hands.
ReplyDeleteOh yes there are spiritual kingdoms in existence in our midst. I know someone who was allowed by God to see the one that is taking place at the Vatican. When she was in Rome and visited the Vatican she saw in the spirit a massive DRAGON Demon principality that sits right on top of the main building there. She said that the dragon saw her looking at it in shock and horror and then it said "My name is Dominion and all this is mine!" At that point she fainted. This is a true story folks, no kidding!
ReplyDeletewow! amazing, Sarah. that dream speaks volumes.
ReplyDeleteIn Watchman Nee's writings, "Resist The Devil" HE says that the Devil operates in a multitude of ways and always under disguise.

Also I heard from somewhere that throughout history Satan's friends are openly displayed as his enemies and his mortal enemies are openly displayed as his friends.
Randy: Satan is the father of lies and he has had a lot of practice over the past several thousand years practicing the art of lying. If you look at the seed and offspring of Satan, they are also very good liars. You can tell a tree by its fruit. You can tell a man by his life and by what comes out of his mouth.
ReplyDeleteGreat discussion. Thank you for the extra readings.
ReplyDeleteTim, I totally agree with you. The one sad fact is that people are attracted to aestheticism. And yes, beleivers have to get to the point where they worship in spirit and in truth, in/by faith, not by sight b/c our carnal eyes mislead us cotinually!
Peace,
Deirdre
Amen.
ReplyDeleteDeidre: The problem with so many church organizations is that their leaders are shallow aesthetes who jumped through the proper hoops (academic credentials) so that they can preach from proper pulpits. This is part of church hierarchy--not necessarily Christianity or surrendering to Christ.
ReplyDeleteIn certain church organizations, you have the clergy and the laity. This is not in the Gospels. Yes, there are mature Christians who are leading unbelievers and young believers into maturity (perfection--Hebrews 6: 1-7--obedience), but it isn't supposed to be some sort of religious institutionspeak. For those who are truly surrendered to Christ (in spirit, not in man-made institutionspeak), these people are kings and priests unto our God. It doesn't come through worldly credentials, but through taking up our cross and following Him.
The carnal mind loves aesthetics because there is no conviction for sin. And many people gravitate towards shallow church movements because they can go there and remain comfortable in their sin and call themselves "Christians".
Going back to taking up our cross and following Him. The Lord has had me hitchhike all over the United States for most of 15 years. Some days I dislike hitchhiking and some days I hate hitchhiking. This hitchhiking is a cross to my will. The more I obey the Lord, the more my will dies and is dissolved into my Father's will. A vessel that is dead to self is a powerful instrument in the Lord's hand. My life of hitchhiking is a very powerful sermon--much more powerful than any word that comes out of my mouth.
"The Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power."
Tim
"His face was tortured, I could tell he was trying desperately to find Christ by Logic, Science, Proof, History etc..."
ReplyDelete--Traveller
Randy:
Faith is not logic; logic is not faith. "It is only through faith that we are able to please God." If we have faith, He will reveal Himself to us, to our spirit. Logic is in the head, faith is in the spirit.
Tim,
ReplyDeleteI know that Jesus eventually brings ALL people to come unto himself, the ROCK, the CHIEF STONE. (1 Peter 2:3). This chief stone, Christ Jesus, will be either a stumbling block or an anvil. To focus on the anvil aspect: The saint will fall on the anvil as an altar and be broken to complete surrender BUT for the hard heart, unrepentant, this anvil is a place to be ground to powder. I once read that, "in the end, Jesus will overrule those who refuse to be ruled." Amen.
Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog a few months ago. I am a devout Catholic. I forget sometimes how some other Christians (yes, of course I am a Christian) see no good in the Catholic Church. If I might just bring up one area that can not be disputed it is the Catholic Church's defense of life. Never has the Church waivered in its defense of the unborn. We are the one voice that consistently cries out against abortion. How can we be "of Satan" when Satan loves nothing more than the destruction of the innocent? I invite you to look at the website Catholic.com. It is filled with answers to the misconceptions about the Catholic Church.
My prayer is that someday "we all may be one" and until that day we will love our neighbor as ourselves.
God bless everyone this Christmas.
Hi Ann G - I just want to sincerely tell you that I have no intention to disparage individuals who are Catholic on this blog. The issue is the heresy that is practiced and taught by the Catholic church.
ReplyDeleteI also don't want to sound like I am discriminating against Catholic apostasy alone, because the Protestant denominations have their apostasy as well. If you have not noticed, I write about some of it on this blog. What ever happened to having a love of the truth? Many believers seem to not really want to confront the truth any more...
True Christianity is about RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ and the simplicity of the Gospel -and not man made religion and rituals and rites and trying to make ourselves seem more righteous and earn our way into heaven through our works; such as by passionately supporting causes like abortion. This is what the Apostle Paul calls a "form of godliness" (2 Tim 3:5). We are saved by grace through faith and not by our works, and we are not to boast of our works. (Eph 2:8-9)
If you study this out in scripture- "works" is really just obedience. (James 2:22-23)
I am not saying that being anti-abortion is not a worthy and honorable cause!! Do not get me wrong on that- but the intention behind it is the issue.
Unfortunately the Catholic church seems more concerned about converts to their church religious system rather than the pure Gospel of Christ and pointing people to Him alone. The Pope and your Priest and Mary are not our intercessor's -JESUS CHRIST ALONE IS!
(Rom 8:34, Heb 7:22-26)
The Catholic church kept the truth of the word of God from the people for over 1400 years! That is a fact. I urge you to please watch the video or get the DVD and you will see the historical facts that back up what I am saying.
Ann I know by the Spirit of Christ within me that you are one of Jesus' very own lambs. The Bible makes it clear that we are to separate ourselves from the apostasy and have nothing to do with it or we will be under Gods judgment.
(Rev 18:4-5 and other scriptures)
I say this not to offend you but to warn you that now you are responsible because I have told you the truth. I will be praying for the Lords will to be done in your life.
In Christ, Sarah
To Ann G.:
ReplyDeleteI was raised a Catholic, I went to Catholic schools (this nun--whom I greatly respected--told me in the fifth grade that I should be a priest someday), I even thought of becoming a Cistercian (Trappist) monk because I didn't blend in very well with the world. The first guy to tell me about the Blood of Jesus and the first guy I heard pray in tongues was a Catholic priest--Fr. Greving of West Bend, Iowa.
Yes, there are Christians in the Catholic church, but I would say that they are a small minority. Remember when Jesus said "your traditions make void the word of God"--this warning is to all church people, Catholic or Protestant. Our man-made traditions will water down our faith in Christ. We must keep to the simplicity that is in Christ.
I see no evidence that Pope Benedict is a Christian. I saw no evidence that Mother Theresa of Calcutta was a Christian. We are not saved by our works or by putting our faith in a certain theological system. We put our faith in the precious blood of Jesus so that we can go to the Father with boldness (living by faith in someone we cannot see or experience through the five senses is not for wimps or aesthetes).
I am also anti-abortion, but my anti-abortion stance comes from the Lord Jesus Christ NOT from the Pope or a Cardinal or an Archbishop. Do you see the difference? Some people read about football in newspapers and magazines and some people play football on the gridiron--there is a difference.
The Holy Ghost Fire separates the wheat (the true seed of Christ) from the chaff (institutionspeak--what aesthetes cling to so much).
I always thought that Fr. Greving was a Christian missionary to the Catholic church. Ann, if you are truly surrendered to Christ, then you are a missionary to the Catholic church. It is between you and the Lord if you are supposed to stay in the Catholic church.
Here is an interesting interview of Chris Pinto who made this film-4 parts on YouTube-

To add to this conversation, please see this old blog by Sarah titled, "JESUS IS OUR SABBATH REST". I firmly believe this blog about Jesus is our sabbath rest really ties into the getting caught up with the RITUALS, SACRAMENTS and RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY OF MAN MADE, SERVING MAN; I.E. the pope and etc...
ReplyDeletePLEASE READ:
http://believersjourney.blogspot.com/2009/08/jesus-is-our-sabbath-rest.html
Hi Randy- That is a good point and I am glad you thought of it. Resting in Jesus is now the true spirit of the 4th commandment. So many Christians just can't seem to grasp this.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
